Department of Sociological History, Theory and Methodology

Brief Information about the Department.
The Department of Sociological History and Theory has existed since the institute was established. Fields of scientific interest: critical analysis of sociological heritage, modernity and post-modernity, changes in kinds and roles of sociological reflection, systems of values, globalization, civil society and democratization of Ukrainian society, authority and power in societies of various development stages, conflictology and elitology, the mass media role, and social identification.

Director of the Department - Victor V. Tancher, Doctor of Sociology, Professor.
Prof. Tancher is a famous specialist in theoretical sociology, history of sociological thought, new directions of sociological theory, elitology. He is an author of over 120 scientific works, editor of collected publications and popular books.
Prof. Tancher is a Head of Sociological Board, Kyiv National Institute of Culture and Arts, he delivers lectures at International Solomon University, he is a member of several specialized editorial boards. Prof. Tancher is a vice-head of the Expert Council, Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine on Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science; a member of the Special Board on Doctor Theses Defense, Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine.
